Lower Sacramento River Trout 8/28/10

Myself, and a couple of  buddy’s, Paul and George drifted between Redding and Anderson Today. It rained from 7:30 AM to around 1PM and we got SOAKED. We also caught fish, 5 landed and over 20 more hookups. Above is a photo of my first trout on a fly rod, not a giant by no means but fun as heck to catch on a buggy whip. The largest fish landed we never got to photo, we dropped it in the water trying to photo it. This section of the Sac. is full of wild trout. American River Shad Fishing Report 5/8/10

Fished with Mark and Bob from San Jose this evening and it was windy probably gusting to15 mph. Mark landed 2 on the fly rod and 4 on spinning gear. Bob switched right away and land 6 or 7 on spinning gear and caught the biggest shad ever landed in my boat. It was 22″ long and 6 lb’s if an ounce. See the photo. I am telling you these are the hardest fighting shad I have ever caught and they are running in the 3 lb range constantly. I have only caught 2 males so far this season and the rest are big females. American River Shad Fishing Report 5/7/10

Will someone please come help me catch these early run fish ! I only landed 7 fish this evening, all in the 2.5lb to 3 lb range but let me tell you they done tore up my arms. American River Shad Report 5/6/10

The river is up another 1000 Cf’s  to 5100 Cf’s and the shad are flooding into the system now. I fished a different spot this evening and I would say I got into them. 9 landed 12 long distance releases and over 20 other hits. American River Shad Fishing Report 5/5/10

Fished this evening and went 3 for 4. The flow were bumped up another 700 Cf’s  to 4400 Cf’s last night and the water has a lot of debre flowing down stream and it is hard to keep your line clear. With these big flows the fish should be flowing into the system now and as soon as most of the debre clears out we should start slamming the shad. That said I hope they the stablize the flows so we can get some good fishing in. Give me a call (707)477-5174 and lets go get some shad.

Bucket-O shad. Fished this evening in the same area and went 4 for 13. What a beautiful evening on the water, no other boats around just a few shore fisherman. The shad fishing is only going to get better. So give me a call and book your trip soon.(707)477-5174

AmericanRiver Steelhead 1/31/10

Drifted the middle section of the river today with my buddy George. We started of with a bang we thought. The first to drifts we had two grab’s and landed one 1/2 pounder about 15″. All tole we had over a dozen hook ups and only landed the one. There are fish in the system but you have to work hard for them. i still have some days available so give me a call (707-477-5174) and lets go fishing.

American River Steelhead 1/9/10

Fished Sailors Bar to Sunrise this AM by myself. I had no takers today but I did see a Fly fisherman hooked up with a salmon and almost spooled, so I went over and picked him up. We moved down around 150 yards only to have the fish wrap around a rock and break his shooting head tipet.
